Fine Dining. A space to experience with all senses.
Makris, whose name derives from the ancient name of Corfu where the restaurant began its journey, connects the past to the present paying tribute to the historical heritage and culture of Greece.
Ideally located at the Roman Forum and opposite the Acropolis, Makris Restaurant is right in the center of the archaeological walk in Athens. The installation highlights this connection and brings the outside space, inside. But how can one bring ceramic fragments in a contemporary and unconventional way?
The idea proposed by the Designer’s Team was to recreate the essence of a ‘ceramic’ explosion. After discussing the idea, we worked closely with Lavatoy Ceramic Studio. Nikos Katsoulas studied the aesthetic and technical aspects and provided solutions to create an aesthetic experience that connects different kinds of dualities: the outside with the inside and the past with the presence.
The installation develops on the ceiling and defies gravity, challenging our perception of where art is placed. Installed in a way that lacks movement, it almost feels like the time froze right there and then.
This project is a testimony to the amazing results when design and art are aligned. Art as a deeply collaborative project among the architect team, ArtSpark, and the artist. Inspired by Makridis Architects, curated by us, and created by Lavatoy.
