At Moxy Athens City managed by SWOT Hospitality, art is an integral part of the hotel’s identity, shaping the way guests, locals, and creatives interact within the space.
Through its ongoing collaboration with ArtSpark Consultants, Moxy Art Affairs transformed the hotel into a dynamic cultural meeting point in the heart of Athens, bringing together exhibitions, live urban art activations, emerging talents, student artists, and established creatives.
Together, these initiatives reshaped the interaction between guests, locals, and contemporary culture, redefining what a hospitality experience can look and feel like in one of Europe’s most creatively charged cities.
In the following interview, Melita Mouliota, Senior Marketing Specialist at Moxy Athens City, reflects on the role of art within the Moxy brand, the impact of these collaborations, and how creative programming continues to shape the hotel’s relationship with both travelers and the local community.
Q&A with Melita Mouliota
Senior Marketing Specialist, Moxy Athens City
Moxy Athens City has consistently integrated art into its programming. From your perspective, how does art contribute to the hotel’s overall brand positioning within the Athens hospitality scene?
Art is the soul of Moxy Athens City. Fashion, art, and music are in our DNA. We are more than a hotel; we are an experience, one we want both guests and Athenians to genuinely live. In a competitive market like Athens, art lets us move beyond the traditional hotel label and position ourselves as a lifestyle disruptor. It is not about decor. It is about being a cultural hub in the heart of Omonia. By weaving art into our programming, we tell a story that resonates with next-gen travelers and locals who crave authenticity and urban energy over a predictable stay.

From hosting a student art exhibition with Deree to organizing live urban art activations, what makes art-led initiatives a good fit for the Moxy brand?
Moxy is built on being a playground for the curious. Art-led initiatives like our student exhibition with Deree or our live urban activations are a natural fit because they are interactive and raw. We do not want guests to simply look at art. We want them to experience the creative process, connect with the artist, and feel the energy of the city. These activations turn our social spaces into living galleries that never feel static. From emerging student talent to established street artists, Moxy Art Affairs gives every generation a platform. And with our arcade still revealing what is next, the story is far from over.
When collaborating with ArtSpark, what was the biggest advantage of having specialized art curators co-shaping these initiatives rather than approaching them as standalone events?
The biggest advantage of collaborating with ArtSpark was the cohesive narrative they brought to the table. Instead of hosting standalone events that might feel disconnected, having specialized curators meant every piece and performance was “Moxy-fied.” Their innovative ideas, seamless communication, and the fresh perspective they brought through new talents truly elevated the entire experience.
They deeply understood the meaning of Moxy Art Affairs and shaped it in a way that created something more than exciting. They speak the language of artists and know exactly how to translate our brand’s bold aesthetic into high-quality curation. They did not just bring art; they brought a strategy that elevated the entire guest experience.

What kind of response did you see from guests and the Athens audience during these art activations? Did anything surprise you?
The response was electric. What surprised me most was how art became the ultimate icebreaker. International guests and Athenians who might never have crossed paths were striking up conversations over a live mural or a student piece. People were not just passing through; they were lingering, asking questions, sharing moments on social media. It proved that our audience is hungry for experiences that provoke thought and spark real connection.

If you had to choose one artwork, either from the Deree student exhibition or the live mural event, which one stands out as your favourite and why?
Honestly, it is nearly impossible to choose just one. Every artist brought something unique and beautiful. But if I had to pick, from the street artists, Vasilis Georgoulas’ live piece is something I would genuinely dedicate a wall in my own home to. It is that powerful.
From the Deree collaboration, the bold colors and raw creativity the students brought were simply world-class. The work felt like a mirror of Moxy itself: bold, colorful, and unapologetically modern. It captured the energy of Athens in a way that felt fresh and completely aligned with who we are. It was not just art. It was an attitude.
