At ArtSpark Consultants, we believe art transforms spaces, creating a bridge between design and emotion. One of our most trusted collaborators, interior designer Olivia Siskou, has been an integral part of many of our projects. Today, she shares her thoughts on one of our favourite projects, Domes Novos Santorini, an Autograph Collection by Marriott.
Hello Olivia! Tell our readers a bit about yourself.
We’re a boutique firm of specialized professionals who share a passion for designing and creating unique spaces. With a focus on detail, we handle projects of all sizes, from thoughtfully designing a single room to delivering comprehensive planning and execution for larger-scale developments like hotels. Always prioritizing our clients’ needs, we craft solutions that blend aesthetics, functionality, and harmony.
We recently worked together on Domes Novos, an amazing hotel in Santorini, Greece. Describe your vision for the space.
Our team had the honor of designing and decorating Domes Novos in Santorini, drawing inspiration from the island’s unique essence. The volcano, natural materials, and iconic colors of Santorini became our reference points, shaping an atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression. A historic local vineyard also influenced the interiors, inspiring us with its tones, textures, and forms. The result? Spaces that strike a perfect balance between minimalist design, luxury, and modern warmth. Our goal was to create an environment that radiates comfort, tranquility, and understated luxury, offering guests an authentic experience deeply connected to Santorini’s identity.
How did art play a role in your vision? What story did you want AS to help tell?
Art played a key role in shaping the aesthetics and character of this project. Notably, the work of Artemis Mouratidou became a focal point, reflecting the volcano’s dynamic presence and connecting the space to the energy of the landscape. We also incorporated art depicting Santorini’s landscapes and traditional ways of life, adding layers of historical memory and authenticity. Locally inspired ceramic pieces, with their unique textures and earthy tones, further strengthened the connection to the island. Santorini’s land and iconic scenery were central to the art choices, seamlessly integrated into the design and decor.
Why is art important to helping tie together interior design?
Art is essential in establishing a dialogue with interiors, bridging the space with the visitor’s emotional experience. It gives spaces identity, tells stories, and creates a deep connection to the location. Far from being mere decoration, art is a vital part of the design process, enhancing the atmosphere, evoking emotions, and elevating the sense of luxury and authenticity. It breathes life into a space, making it more inspired and unique.
Do you have a favorite place in Domes Novos now that the project is complete?
My favorite spot at Domes Novos is the lobby/reception area. It beautifully captures the authenticity and essence of the island. Standout features include Artemis Mouratidou’s artwork, which uniquely conveys the volcano’s spirit, and the lighting installation, designed to mimic volcanic rock formations. Together, they create a dynamic connection to the landscape and history of Santorini.
